Why care? Because Italy's four operators are genuinely different once you leave a city. In Opensignal's December 2025 Italy report, TIM won Consistent Quality at 79.2%, the metric closest to "does the connection actually hold". Vodafone won speed and reliability. WindTre won every 5G category. Iliad, cheapest by far, came second on reliability and remains thinner in remote areas.
On a Rome-Florence-Venice itinerary none of that matters and every plan on this site works. On a Dolomites, Cinque Terre trail, Sardinian interior or Tuscan back-road itinerary it decides your week, and TIM is the network you want. The recurring complaint in Yesim's one-star reviews is throttling on plans sold as unlimited, which is consistent with the fact that it publishes no cap number. That is a reason to buy its fixed-data plans and not its unlimited ones, which is exactly what we recommend.

How to buy and install a Yesim Italy plan four minutes on home wifi
- Check the handset. Dial *#06#. An EID in the list means the phone takes an eSIM. A carrier-locked phone does not, no matter what the listing says.
- Buy the Italy plan, not the regional one. Yesim sells a Europe bundle too. If Italy is the whole trip, the country plan is cheaper; if Switzerland is on the list, neither one covers it. Read this first.
- Install before you fly, on wifi. The plan starts counting when it first connects in Italy, not when you install it, so there is nothing to gain by waiting and a working phone to lose.
